Heather Merrill (Museum and Field Assistant)

Heather started her work at the WFVZ as an intern in the summer of 2023 while attending California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). She aims to graduate in Spring 2025 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Resource management with a minor in Biology. She was hired at the WFVZ as a Field Research Assistant during the 2023 field season to assist with nest box monitoring for many bird species on our primary restoration sites. During the fall Heather started her job as a curatorial assistant at the WFVZ where she catalogues and computerizes museum specimens.

Heather first interned with Conejo Open Space Conservancy doing surveys and bird nest monitoring for weed abatement.

She continues to find ways to expand her knowledge and experience in studying birds, while aiming to attend graduate school in the future. Increasing her contributions to avian research and advocating for climate change solutions, Heather continues to aim for the stars through her education and work for the foundation.
