FOCUSED EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AT THE WFVZ

education

A primary aspect of the WFVZ’s mission is to provide Science Education to students, educators, and members of the public in Ventura County.  Since 2002 we have striven to offer high quality museum science tours and classes for all levels of students visiting the museum, from elementary school through college, and taught by practicing scientists and biologists working at the WFVZ.

Research has demonstrated that extracurricular science school programs (often called “informal science education”) can make significant contributions to science proficiency, literacy, and choice of scientific careers for students in the primary grades in particular.  Thus, in addition to our regular monthly tours for members of the public, the WFVZ offers targeted informal science education opportunities for elementary through high school students in public and private schools, and homeschools, and specifically targets particular Next Generation Science Standards in class offerings.

**With the help of our donors, Edison International and Walmart, from 2016-2018 we are also able to offer funds for buses and tours to the museum for Title 1 schools in Ventura County.  Please contact us at least 3 months in advance to arrange a visit for your class!**

For older students (college and above), and for high school students at least 17  years old, the WFVZ also offers Internships and the possibility of involvement in local Citizen Science projects.  Please contact us for additional information!
